Halloween Music (a repost from my website)

With Halloween being less than two weeks away, I’ve started to get in the spirit by compiling a list of songs.  When I think of Halloween music, it’s not neccesarily directly related to the holiday.  For example, Oingo Boingo - Dead Man's Party, Patsy Cline – Walkin’ After Midnight or the entire soundtrack of The Virgin Suicides are exellent songs for the season.

Although I will probably be going to The Bang! the Saturday before Halloween (BTW if anyone is interested in going, let me know), I still would like to make the ultimate collection.  Who knows, maybe I’ll find a place to share it.

What songs do you enjoy to hear in spirit of Halloween?  Leave a comment letting me know.

Halloween Approacheth

Halloween is a mere 6 weeks away.  I have a few ideas for a costume, but no idea as to what I’m doing   Its on a freaking Monday this year.  In a way, i guess its good.  That gives a whole weekend of possible party dates and leaves Monday for passing out candy.  Too bad I have a class until 7:30 that night.

So first, what do you think about my costume ideas:
Neil Diamond
Bravo_neil_diamond
or
Harry Potter
Highres (01)

Secondly:  Whats everyones (possible) plans?

Comment and let me know.

School Has Taken Me Hostage

I know I know.  Its been about 2 weeks since I’ve said a word.  School has kept me extremely busy.

My registration problems are still not fixed.  Monday is my last day to get things straightened out.

No more going out at night for me…Except Tuesdays with Brian and $1 drafts.

Lastly, after I got in last night I was reading my normal feeds and noticed a story that Food Network’s Rachael Ray is engadged.  So what, right?  But the picture they used for the story was one I never saw before.  After doing some reading, I come to find out that she posed for FHM in 2003.

Jazz Master Dave Brubeck
Well work is over with and I now have a few days before school starts. Hopefully my registration problems will be fixed before Tuesday.

Last night was the openinig night of the Detroit Jazz Festival. Its the first one I've been to in years. Its amazing to see the evolution of Detroit. This year the festival is not only at Hart Plaza. Woodward has been blocked off from Jefferson to the Hard Rock Cafe with vendors and two more stages.

Last night was the Funk Brothers, making it the 3rd time I've seen them live. I was so happy to see such a big crowd of people. I saw people of all races and all ages; babies, teenagers, seniors. Its a great feeling. I will definitely make it down ther at least once more this weekend. My plan is to go on Monday for a great lineup:

Labor Day at The Detroit Jazz Festival:
4:30 Thornetta Davis - I haven't seen her since The Music Menu was closed. I used to go see her every Wednesday night.
5:30 The Blind Boys of Alabama - I've only just recently discovered this band thanks to WDET.
7:15 The Dave Brubeck Quartet - My jaw dropped when I discovered that Dave Brubeck would be at the JazzFest. He is a household name in Jazz and I feel very lucky to have the chance to see him live.

I suggest you go down, because Pontiac has nothing on Detroit when it come to true culture.

Update on my Wayne Fiasco

For those who know what I'm talking about:

Grimm approved my petition, and I will have all my needed classes. Only I cant get my original times I wanted. I have to take a friday night lab for 4 hours, now. Its not that bad cause I'd be driving to Eastpointe fridays anyway.

Still havent received my test results yet, but now if I failed it I can still register my classes for this semester.

Last weekend of summer?

Well, not exactly. I have labor day weekend, before I return to Wayne, but Lauren started today. We took a mini vacation over the weekend. Its not easy planning a big vacation when you both work 40+ hours. We took a trip to Frankenmuth. Well first we went to Saginaw. The hotel was awesome. We got a poolside suite for $80. Not much in Saginaw so we took advantage of the exercise room, pool, atrium, whirlpool and HBO.

The next day we drove to Frankenmuth. I was probably 12 the last time I was there. We visited all the shops and bought plenty of things. There was a shop with all these old photo prints from Michigan. I bought an 11 x 14 print of Old Main from what looks to be the 50's.

Next we went to the Cheese Haus and tried a bunch of cheeses. We brought home a few spreads: Strawberry Cheese, Cheddar w/horseraddish and Swiss Almond. The Chocolate Cheese was disgusting. Once we hit the north-most point, we stopped into the St. Julian Winery for lots of free tasting. Lauren bought a chardonay and a merlot and I bought a peach spumante. We headed back south on the other side of the road, stopped at the Kandy Shop and Country Haus. For dinner, we ate at the Frankenmuth Brewery. Had an amazing Wheat Ale. Potato Pancakes, Mac and (Bavarian) Cheese... all delicious.

I think this will be a yearly trip. Im thinking of returning for Oktoberfest this year.

Family In Florida -- Fighting Katrina

When I got home last night, I asked mom how Jamie and Dad were. They left Wednesday to visit my aunt, uncle and cousins in Florida. Before the storm hit (for the midwesters who dont pay any attention: Hurricane Katrina), Becky took Jamie to the beach in the morning, then they boarded up the houses and prepared for the storm. Most stores were already closed down, so it took a while to get all the necessary supplies. They lost power in the evening, so no AC or fans in a boarded-up house. They should be able to leave on Sunday as planned.

Here's some behind-the-scenes footage to new new Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. It goes behind the set for the underwater scene. The source is in Spanish, but you're smart folks. If not, have Google translate it.

Will Farrell as Neil Diamond

'Hello, my friend'
Will Farrell as Neil Diamond
With Neil being on his 2005 tour, Gorilla Mask has decided to share one of the greatest SNL skits of all time -- Will Farrell as Neil Diamond.

Ha ha ha ha ha! Yeah, well, we were driving down this dark road, and I hit a kid. So, we got out, and sure enough he was dead. So, we just took off. Pretty fast. And two hours later, I wrote "Sweet Caroline".

Sweet Caroline.
Good times never seemed so good.

Thank you.

Ashlee Simpson, Please Make My Webstats Soar Once Again

Ashlee Simpson
Every once in a while my site gets a massive amount of traffic, when I post about some humiliating story about a celebrity. A few weeks ago, that post was Fergie of the Black-Eyed Peas and her 'sweat spot.' About a year ago, I owed all my traffic to Ashlee Simpson and her lip-synching saga on SNL. I must have got a thousand unique visits over a week on that story. With Ashlee wanting to return to SNL, I may once again have that chance.

A Wordpress Hosting Service

From DownloadSquad:

Wordpress developer Matt Mullenweg has announced plans to start a hosted Wordpress service via Wordpress.com. This will effectively position them against , although Brad Hill notes they'll also need to distinguish themselves from the growing number of web hosts offering Wordpress as a one-click install (Dreamhost, Bluehost, etc.).

I wouldn't mind some of my LiveJournal friends switching over to Wordpress. This could be their oppritunity.

Wordpress is the software used on ParallelJohnny.com and No-Good-Reason.net to publish, organize and manage blog entries.

Utah Rave ‘Versus 2′ is Dismantled by Armed Forces

A SWAT team officer orders the video-taker to shut off their camera.
I can't believe what I'm reading. This past weekend a rave sounding something similar to Detroit's own Fuse-In was stopped by the Utah National Guard...

Name six songs that you are currently digging … it doesn’t matter what genre they are from, whether they have words or even if they’re any good but they must be songs you’re really enjoying right now. Post these instructions and then list the six artists and the songs. Then tag six other people to see what they’re listening to.

  • The Killers - All These Things That I've Done

  • Foo Fighters - Everlong

  • Nickel Creek - Eveline

  • Nickel Creek - Best of Luck

  • Jamiroquai - Seven Days in Sunny June

  • Gorillaz - Last Living Souls

Now I tag:

Brian
Cam
Lindsay (WR)
Ken P.
Erin (blah blah, matty nay, blah blah graham colton...hahaha, sorry)

I didn't check if you've been tagged before or not, but who cares.
